Advice For Every Person Who Owns A Cat

Cats may be animals, but so many centuries of serving as domesticated pets has spoiled them. Cats today have become much more sensitive to the wild than the rest of the animal kingdom. Fleas, ticks, and other critters can quickly and quietly become a serious problem if your cat is outside often.

Keep a clean litter box. Like you, a cat will generally not use a bathroom that is filthy. Find a quiet area out of the way that the box can stay in, and don't move it unless absolutely necessary. Scoop solids out a couple time of day. Make sure to dump the whole box, wash it with a gentle detergent, and refill it once a week.

Keep the litter box clean. Cats are naturally very clean animals, and a dirty litter box will have your cat looking for alternative places to relieve himself. Cats also value their privacy, so try to locate the box in an area that does not get a lot of foot traffic.

You will often find ways to save money on medication for your cat on the Internet instead of getting it from your vet. Online prescriptions are not the best choice if you do not have the time to wait on a mail order, such as in a medical emergency. But, if you're having to buy pet medication regularly, you will be able to save up to half the price if you buy online.

Cats are great family pets, but small children might be too rough. Teach your kids the right way to hold a cat. Help them learn how to pick up a cat and care for it. Cats have weaker bones than dogs and need more gentle treatment.

When training a cat, take the proper approach. Encouragement works better than anger. If you are trying to teach a kitten to use a litterbox, for instance, yelling will only frighten a small cat. When the cat starts to go outside the box, gently place them in the box so they learn.

Make a tablecloth for your cats. Cat's will often remove food from their bowl to eat it. This leaves food on the floor outside their bowl that must be cleaned. Something as simple as a place mat can help make cleanup easier.

The outside world doesn't need to be a scary place for you or your cat. These tips should help keep your new pet safe from infections, poisonous wildlife, and other dangerous animals. If your cat can't seem to escape some constant disturbance outside, it may need to spend more time indoors instead.
